CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

Set in modern-day Saint-Petersburg, this new interpretation of Crime and Punishment follows Rodion Raskolnikov, a young student who is in terrible debt, and Dunya, his out of luck sister. Lost in a city of temptations with nowhere else to go, Rodion turns to the Devil out of desperation. The Devil pushes Rodion to commit petty thefts in the supermarket while the guards and the saleswoman are looking the other way. Rodion’s life then begins to unravel. He is tormented by his conscience after committing these petty crimes, but the Devil knows how to manipulate his suffering and pushes him to murder a pawnbroker to whom he is permanently in debt. Like the literary text it is based on, the series asks how an ordinary, well-educated person becomes a murderer. Is there a way out of the dark labyrinth of sins and temptations back into the light? To solve this mystery is to answer the toughest questions of our time.
